BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 22. Value of agricultural production, including forestry, and fishing products, in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 51.8 billion soms ($591 million) from January through April 2023, increasing by 2 percent over the same period of 2022, Trend reports.
As the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan says, the growth in the volume of agricultural production was caused by an increase in livestock production, which accounts for 94.3 percent of the total output.
Crop production followed at 3.7 percent, while forestry and fishing contributed a marginal 0.1 percent each. Additionally, services accounted for 1.8 percent of the overall production.
As reported, the majority of production, amounting to 94.8 percent, was contributed by peasant households and personal subsidiary households.
In the overall volume of agricultural production, the Chuy region occupies the largest share - about 27 percent or 13.8 billion soms ($157.6 million).
Agriculture, serving as the fundamental pillar of Kyrgyzstan's economy, encompasses approximately 40 percent of the country's workforce. The primary agricultural products in Kyrgyzstan include apples, apricots, cherries, sugar beets, beans, cotton, tobacco, and walnuts. In terms of animal husbandry, the country focuses on sheep, goats, cattle, and wool, in addition to raising chickens, horses, and pigs.
