An Iranian Foreign Ministry delegation has met with Uruguayan parliamentarians to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations between Tehran and Montevideo, Press TV reported with reference to IRIB.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Ahani and his entourage have met with a number of Uruguayan senators and lawmakers in Uruguay's capital and also discussed international issues including developments in North Africa, Middle East and Latin America amongst others, the IRIB reported on its website.
Ahani described his meeting with Uruguay officials as useful.
The Iranian and Uruguayan officials also emphasized the importance of further interactions among political, economic and parliamentary institutions of the two countries.
According to the report, Uruguayan legislators also underscored the expansion of ties with the Islamic Republic.
Recently, a parliamentary delegation from Uruguay visited Tehran.
Before his visit to Uruguay, Ahani arrived in Brazil on Monday to confer with the Brazilian officials on issues of mutual interest as well as regional and international developments.
During recent years, Iran has expanded its cooperation with many Latin American states, including Venezuela, Cuba and Brazil.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced in a report in December 2009 that Brazil is the largest trade partner of Iran among Latin American countries.
Last year, Iran's state radio said bilateral trade with Brazil had increased to more than USD two billion in the 2009-10 year from USD 500 million in 2005, and was forecast to reach about USD ten billion in the next five years.
