Iran has purchased four Mi-171 helicoters from Russia, for various rescue operations, Head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society's Relief and Rescue Organization Mahmoud Mozaffar said, ISNA reported.

Mi-171 is a win-turbine transport helicopter that can also act as a gunship, yet Iran intends to use the bought models solely for rescue missions and passenger transportations.

Along with helicopters, 10 ambulance cars were purchased to provide mobile help for people in quake areas around Iran, and other emergency situations.

In October, Iran revealed country's first domestically built mobile crisis center, first of its kind in Middle East.

Head of Iran's Ministry of Emergency Gholamreza Masumi said at the time that the crisis center is a technically enhanced vehicle, which cost some $261,000 to build, and it would be helpful in the areas without telephone connection, as well as in cases where medical attention is needed.
