Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Lapo Pistelli said on Wednesday that Italian government is eager to expand cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, IRNA reported.

Pistelli told head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi in Tehran that the visit of Italian diplomatic delegation to Tehran to attend inauguration ceremony of President Hassan Rohani would be a prelude to serial visits to Iran at different levels.

He underlined important role of parliamentary cooperation to boost bilateral relations.

Regarding the important status and role of Iran Majlis, expansion of parliamentary relations between the two countries can open a new horizon to bilateral relations, he added.

He said that the head of Italian Senate foreign policy commission will soon visit Tehran.

He also referred to conclusion of a memorandum of understanding between Iran and Italy on Afghanistan and called for regional cooperation as well as Irans important role in regional peace and calm.

Boroujerdi for his part lauded role of parliamentary cooperation for expansion of bilateral relations and economic cooperation.

He said Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission supports parliamentary cooperation with Italy.

On Iran-Group 5+1 nuclear talks, Boroujerdi said that the two parties must consider confidence-building to reach a settlement.

The nuclear talks must focus on removal of mistrust and reaching a common belief.

He said that Iranian peaceful nuclear program has been in line with Non-Proliferation Treaty.

The nuclear dispute needs serious resolve to make a breakthrough based on realities. The ball is in the western court.

He pointed to outcome of the presidential election and said that the people have elected President Hassan Rohani to tell the international community that Iran wants economic cooperation with the entire world.

The Supreme Leader has forbidden producing nuclear weapon and Iranian nuclear program is peaceful so that the western government must take practical steps to resolve the nuclear issue.
