Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki made a statement in response to U.S. President Barack Obama's new nuclear strategy, IRINN reported.

The U.S. has the largest nuclear arsenal in the world and keeps a large number of nuclear weapons. Washington should set a date for complete destruction of its nuclear arsenal, since its presence is a threat to peace and creates conditions for the international instability. The new U.S. nuclear strategy is no different from previous strategies "in reality", in addition, it allowed the use of nuclear weapons in some cases, the statement says.

Apr.6, Obama's administration introduced a new nuclear strategy. The document is published on the Defense Ministry official website. Based on this document, role of nuclear weapons in the U.S. national security will be reduced, but retained. The primary objective of the new strategy indicates the prevention of nuclear terrorism and nuclear weapons. By the newly adopted document, the U.S. pledged not to use nuclear weapons against the states that do not possess it. Obama believes in case of attack on the United States by any state, the attack can be stopped by new modern weapons.

Storage of nuclear weapons is contrary to the sixth article of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), and the international community expects from the United States for complete disarmament and destruction of nuclear weapons. The fact that Washington is committed not to use nuclear weapons against other countries, not so much essential, because the U.S. has repeatedly violated its commitments. The countries which have acceded to the NPT, do not take seriously the obligation of the United States. Reducing the number of nuclear warheads would not be real, if not done under the full control of the world community, Mottaki's statement says.

In its new nuclear strategy, Mr. Obama has not made any allusion to the "Zionist regime", spreading nuclear weapons and did not sign any treaty to ban weapons of mass destruction. Obama's such a step shows "insincerity" of the U.S. officials in the negotiations, the statement says.

Iran has always maintained that its nuclear program is peaceful and the country remains committed to its obligations under the NPT treaty. The conference dedicated to the renunciation of weapons of mass destruction to be held in Tehran in late April is evidence to it. At the conference, Iran will proclaim the slogan "Nuclear energy for all, nuclear weapons to anyone."

The statement also emphasizes the fact that the U.S. president followed the principles of the promised "politics of change" during his election campaign. This will return the U.S. its lost image and create conditions for settling international problems through negotiations.

The U.S. and other Western countries accuse Iran of developing nuclear weapons for military purposes under the guise of peaceful nuclear energy program. Tehran denies the charges, saying that its nuclear program is aimed solely at meeting the country's electricity needs. The U.N. Security Council adopted five resolutions in connection with the suspension of Iran's nuclear program. Three involve the use of economic sanctions on Iran.
