The creator of the animated comedy hit The Family Guy has struck a production deal with 20th Century Fox TV that will make him the highest paid writer-producer on television, dpa reported.

Seth MacFarlane, who also voices most of the characters on the show, will earn about 100 million dollars through the life of the contract, which runs until 2012, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

MacFarland is expected to produce two animated series for 20th TV and Fox - American Dad and the upcoming Family Guy spinoff The Cleveland Show.

The contract also encompasses new-media projects related to MacFarlane's TV series, as well as DVD and merchandising revenue from them. According to the report, Family Guy alone has already grown into a 1-billion-dollar franchise with red-hot DVD and merchandise sales.

"I get a lot of pleasure out of making shows," MacFarlane said. "It's a bonus to be getting paid well for it, and it's a double bonus to be getting paid exorbitantly for it."
