Over 1,000 tons of drugs were revealed and seized in Iran last year (in Iran the year begins from march 21), Iranian Police Chief General Ismail Ahmadi Mugaddam said during the meeting with Turkish Department of Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Ahmet Pek, FARS News Agency reported.
"Iran and Turkey cooperate in such areas as combating human trafficking, drug trafficking, smuggling, illegal border crossings, and the interaction between the two countries in solving these issues should be expanded. Turkey is a strategic partner of Iran," Mugaddam said.
A delegation headed by the head of the Turkish Department of Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Ahmet Pek was in visit to Iran.
According to Pek, Iranian-Turkish relations have a long history, and the cooperation between the two countries in combating illegal drugs will be expanded. He also noted that drugs produced in Afghanistan pose a serious threat to both countries.
