Azerbaijan, Baku / corr S.Ilhamgizi/ The Socio-Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (SDPA) suggests creating the election commission in the composition of the representatives of candidates participating in the elections. Araz Alizade, SDPA Co-chair informed Trend.
Amendments are expected to be injected in the Election Code of Azerbaijan. The session on the
improvement of the Election Code will be held in Baku on November 7-9, through the joint
organization of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe and IFES with the participation
of the political parties of the country.
Alizade offers to abolish the election commissions and to form the commission in two stages. He suggests to create a commission with the composition of independent experts, who will carry out the registration of the nominees, and afterwards to establish the election commission comprising the representatives of the registered candidates.
The head of the SDPA thinks that the offer by the opposition on the creation of the commissions on parity basis between the authorities and the opposition is unpromising. " They think about their own interests by making such an offer", said Alizade
The current election commissions are formed of the representatives of parties having the majority at the parliament, the parties in minority and the independent member of parliaments.
SDPA is a left-ring opposition party. Araz Alizade and Ayaz Mutallibov, ex-president of Azerbaijan who is currently residing in the USA are the co-chairs of the party.
