Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 May / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The meeting of Turkic speaking countries Speakers, initially planned to be held in summer 2008, has been postponed until next year. "The meeting of Speakers may be delayed until 2009, if the essential work is not completed until the end of 2008," Hasan Baytek, Director of Protocol Service on Foreign Issues of Turkish Parliament, stated to Trend .
According to the information released by the Azerbaijani media, it s planned to hold a meeting of the Turkic speaking countries to establis the Parlaimentary Assembly of Turkic speaking countries. The International Relations Department of Azerbaijani Parliament stated that the meeting would be held in Ankara, Turkey, in July.
Turkey denied this information and stated that the date of the meeting has not been specified as yet. "The efforts to hold the meeting of Turkic speaking countries Speakers are being continued so far. The exact date has not been set as yet. We would set only that date which is appropriate for all the sides," a representative from Turkish Parliament stated.
According to Baytekin, if the agreement is soon achieved amongst the Parliaments then the meeting could be held by the end of 2008.
There are six Turkic speaking countries. Only Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have signed an agreement on establishment of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic speaking countries. Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have not given their official consent for this so far.
