The events in Iran have nothing to do with the situation in Arab countries now, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in an exclusive interview with Euronews today.

"What happened in Iran is not the same as what's going on in other countries," Ahmadinejad said. "A totally free election was held in Iran, but attacking buildings and cars is forbidden in any country and of course that is what the police as well as the judiciary are concerned about preventing."

We should express sadness that some leaders have such a bad relationship with their people that they end up at this point, he said.

"I voice my disappointment over the global management which separatessome governments from their people to the point that the people, forthe sake of reaching a degree of freedom, have to ask for the trial oftheir leaders," Ahmadinejad said.

"There are prisons everywhere," Ahmadinejad said answering thequestions whether there is freedom for Mirhossein Mousavi and MehdiKarroubi who are under house arrest. "They have problems with thejudiciary. The judiciary in Iran acts independently and I don't have
the right to interfere in the judicial affairs. There are rules underwhich people can interact with the judiciary."

In 2009, the powerful opposition unrest broke out in Tehran after theannouncement of the results of the presidential election held on June12. The election was won by the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

According to official figures, the clashes killed 20 people. Theunofficial count was near 150 deaths. About 1,032 demonstrators werearrested, most of whom were subsequently released.

There were demonstrations in support of the peoples of Egypt andTunisia in Tehran in mid-February 2011. According to the reports, demonstrations were also held in other Iranian cities - Isfahan,Shiraz and Kermanshah. More than 1,000 demonstrators appeared on thestreets of Shiraz and Isfahan. The police tried to disperse theprotesters.

Iran's national security forces used tear gas against demonstrators in
