BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 22. A new gas block with a capacity of 183 megawatts has been commissioned today at the Shahid Salimi Neka Thermal Power Plant (TPP) located in Iran’s northern Mazandaran Province, Trend reports via the Iranian President’s Information Portal.
An inauguration ceremony was held for the new gas block, with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian participating via video format. The block was constructed and put into operation in less than five months, creating jobs for 200 people.
In total, the Shahid Salimi Neka TPP plans to commission two new gas blocks with 183 megawatts each and one steam block with 180 megawatts capacity. The project will require an investment of 175 trillion rials (about $302 million). Once all blocks are operational, the plant’s total electricity generation capacity will reach 2,760 megawatts.
The plant currently operates four steam blocks, each producing 440 megawatts, and two gas blocks with a capacity of 137.6 megawatts each. Additionally, the station has one combined cycle gas-steam block producing 160 megawatts and two expansion turbine blocks generating 9.4 megawatts each.
