The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has expressed its willingness to support major projects initiated by Turkmenistan, the Foreign Minister reported.
The bank stresses "the importance of developing of regional transport infrastructure. Support in this area can be provided in collaboration with other international financial institutions.
The Turkmen Foreign Ministry referred to the EBRD Board of Directors. They unanimously approved a new strategy for Turkmenistan for 2010 - 2013. This strategy expressed full support for political and economic reforms implemented in Turkmenistan.
The press-release also said that the EBRD has supported the concept of economic development on private entrepreneurship, including small and medium businesses, introduction the latest technologies and advanced management methods, based on the principles of a smooth transition to a market economy implemented in Turkmenistan.
The priority areas of mutually beneficial cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EBRD are the banking and financial sector, energy sector, transport and communications, agriculture. In this context, the Bank's willingness to partnership in increasing skills of professional staff was also highlighted.
At present, Turkmenistan implements a project of building the railway corridor with Iran and Kazakhstan. It will significantly reduce the way of the Central Asian countries to the Persian Gulf. This project is supported by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
