Iran sets sights on petrochemical sector growth

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 6. Iran's petrochemical sector is expected to sell 48 million tons of petrochemical products in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025), Hassan Abbaszadeh from the country's National Petrochemical Company said at the 15th International Iran Petrochemical Forum in Tehran on August 5, Trend reports.

According to him, 34 million tons of petrochemical products will be exported, and 14 million tons will be supplied to the domestic market.

Abbaszadeh explained that Iran's capacity for manufacturing petrochemical products will increase to 103 million tons by the end of the current Iranian year (by March 20, 2025), with actual output reaching 83 million tons.

The official pointed out that within the next 10 years, it's planned to increase the output of Iranian petrochemical products to 186 million tons.

"Over the next 10 years, methanol production in Iran will increase from 16 million tons to 34 million tons, ammonia production from seven million tons to 10 million tons, and polymer production from nine million tons to 30 million tons," he added.

To note, the two-day 15th International Iran Petrochemical Forum and Exhibition concluded on August 5, with representatives from over 70 local and foreign companies participating.
