TEHRAN,Iran, June 12

Banquet and reception halls in Iran are almost broke due to the COVID-19 situation in the country, the head of Tehran Reception Halls Unions Khosrow Ebrahimi Nia told Trend.
"The coronavirus spread has caused closure of reception halls for six months, to prevent large gatherings," he said.
"Despite the implementation of health protocols, the owners are facing heavy losses, are unable to pay rent and other costs. Around 50 percent of reception halls went bankrupt, and the rest are hanging on without any support," said Nia.
"Although we have stated many times that we are following health protocols but the National Headquarters to fight Coronavirus has not allowed our activity, which may lead people to use such venues for large gatherings," he said.
He went on to add that servants at reception halls will be tested for the coronavirus, and provide services wearing both face mask and gloves.
"The spread of the infection occurred because some reception halls were hiring unprofessional staff," Nia said.
He went on to add that while the reception halls are struggling to survive, there is no monitoring of health protocols at restaurants.
"We hope the government would provide us with a solution so that the halls can resume work, following all necessary health protocols," he said.
