Israel, Jerusalem, 5 May / corr. Trend R. Abdullayev/ The president of Israel, Shimon Peres, believes that the Western countries should not ignore Iran's nuclear program. "All nuclear investigations in Iran should be stopped," the President said in Jerusalem while answering the question of Trend in a press conference on 5 May.

According to Peres, it is Iran who wants to demolish Israel to the ground, but not vice versa. "It is impossible to think of the situation when the fanatic leaders of Iran, the terrorist financed by this country will possess nuclear arms - the world will become unpredictable," said Peres.

According to the Israeli leader, Iran sponsors, is training and assisting extremist groups through various means. "The combination of terror, arms and an irresponsible government makes Iran a threat not only for Israel, but for the whole world," he said.

Israel does not have any claims to Iran as a country with its immense history and culture, Peres said. However, he expressed his concern over the fact that 'the regime of Ahmadinejad wishes to control the Near East'. He described the policy of spreading Iran's influence to the region as 'a religious colonialism' and added that Arabic countries in the Near East are more afraid of Iran and HAMAS than of Israel.
