Georgian Ambassador to the United States Batu Kutelia will meet with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) today in connection with planned cooperation between Moscow and Abkhazia, Georgian Foreign International Relations Department head Irakli Giviashvili said at a joint meeting of the parliamentary foreign relations and territorial integrity restoration committees.
Giviashvili said Russia is violating the Chicago International Convention, which could lead to the suspension of Russian's right to vote in the ICAO Assembly.
However, before making such a decision, the ICAO has to undergo a complicated procedure, as Russia will try to use its political influence on individual countries, he added.
Giviashvili emphasized that if the ICAO determines that Russia violated the convention, this will not be followed by real sanctions, but will become a lever for Georgia for increase pressure.
Regarding the steps taken by the ministry, he said the Foreign Ministry has already requested that the ICAO respond and give a legal assessment.
Kutelia will personally familiarize the ICAO representatives with Georgia's position April 22.
