Georgia, Tbilisi, May 4 / Trend N.Kirtzkhalia /
May 6 will be Police Day in Georgia, Georgian Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili said in a letter published in the 24 Hours newspaper today.
"So far, Georgian police have two professional dates - Nov. 10 as Police Day and Nov. 30 as State Security Agents' Day. Both dates were a complete anachronism, as one day commemorated the establishment of the Soviet militia and the second - the emergency committee. So we decided to elect a new day. May 6 is associated with positive emotions for the majority of the population. Firstly, there is Giorgoba, and Adjara was also liberated from the regime of Aslan Abashidze on this day. So we decided to choose May 6, " Merabishvili wrote.
He noted that reforms should continue in this area, "because the reversal immediately begins as soon as progress stops. But this should not be allowed," Merabishvili wrote.
"Our greatest achievement to date is that the police have won sympathy among the majority of the population. Much remains to be done to maintain this provision in the future. It is also important that the police have always been far from politics," the letter noted.
