Analyzing the situation in Yemen after the possible resignation of President Ali Abdallah Saleh, European analyst of Arab origin Maha Azzam said that it is wrong to think that a new period full of democracy and reforms will begin after the resignation of the president.

She said that the stability is not restored yet even in relatively developed and economically strong countries like Egypt and Tunisia, after the overthrow of the regime's. Yemen, with its economic and ethnic problems, will suffer a long period of crisis after the overthrow of the regime, she said.
The anti-governmental demonstrations demanding the resignation of President Saleh, who became president of North Yemen in 1978, and headed the formed republic after the unification of North and South in 1990, continue in Yemen from early February.
In mid-March, Arab media reported that over 40 people died and about 300 injured as a result of Yemeni security forces' shelling the anti-governmental protesters in the capital Sana'a.
