Kars-Ahalkalki Railroad Construction to Commence in Mid-2007 Georgian Economic Development Minister

Work on the design of the Kars-Ahalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railroad is now ongoing. Trend Special Correspondent from Georgia reports that Irakly Chogovadze, the Georgian Minister of Economic Development stated that he had been assigned by the Georgian Prime Minister to co-ordinate the project funding with Azerbaijan.

Chogovadze also said the railroad construction is likely to commence in mid-2007. The exact project cost is not known as yet, but approximate estimations are said to be to the amount of up to $600mln. The Georgian section of the railroad will cost up to $400mln.
