Azerbaijan awaits the results of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine regarding gas which is scheduled for September, to continue the discussions over the import of Russian gas to Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Minister of Industry and Energy Natik Aliyev told, Trend reports.
We do not want to rush. We want to see the results of the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine regarding gas. During his visit to Baku, the Ukrainian President Victor Yushenka stressed that the prices of the Russian gas sold to Ukraine will equal $135 - $140 for 1.000 m3.
In addition, a meeting was held with the representatives of Moldavia. They also hold the same negotiations. But still there is no information. Therefore, I consider that there is no need to speed this process, the Minister said.
Presently Azerbaijan is defining the volume of gas that will be delivered to the Country in 2007. This volume includes the private gas of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), associated gas from Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli. At the same time, the volume of the gas that Azerbaijan will receive from Shah-Deniz is being studied.
Azerbaijan possesses enough private resources, and I have repeatedly said that if we are not satisfied with the terms of purchasing Russian gas, then we will not purchase it, Aliyev emphasized.
