The heads of the groups of Interparliamentary Friendship of Turkic Countries are expected to gather in Baku in January 2007, Professor Nizami Jafarov, Head of the Group of Azerbaijani-Turkish Intergovernmental Friendship, Chairman of the Permanent Commission of the Milli Majlis on Culture Issues told Trend expressing his attitude toward the issue on founding the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States.
Notably, it was Azerbaijan who initiated this issue.
Mr. Jafarov also pointed out that negotiations have been held with many leaders of the Turkic States. We decided that the grounds of the forthcoming Assembly are to be determined by January 2007. We are going to invite the heads of the groups of Interparliamentary Friendship acting within the parliaments of the Turkic States to Baku who are very interested. , said the Azerbaijani MP.
Mr. Jafarov also pointed out that in order to fulfill this issue, it is necessary to have talks with leaders of some Turkic States. This issue should be agreed with the heads of the States. I hope that we shall achieve our goal by January 2007, he stated.
