Azerbaijan, Baku, April 6/ Trend, T. Hajiyev /
A protest action of the World Azerbaijanis Congress (WAC), scheduled to be held outside of the Iranian Embassy in Baku, is being postponed.
A reply to the Congress's letter, addressed to the Baku City Executive Power on April 5, states that under the relevant legal provisions "On Freedom of Assembly," the Executive Power must be informed five days prior to the protest begins, the WAC said. Due to failure in fulfilling this requirement, the Baku City Executive Power deems it inappropriate for permission to be granted for holding the rally.

The WAC intended to protest against the Iranian government's indifferent attitude about the drying of the Urmia Lake, and to demand for the release of hundreds of Azerbaijanis arrested on April 2 during rallies in Tabriz, Urmia, Sulduz and Goshachay in connection with an ecological disaster in the Urmia Lake.
