BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 12. Solar energy generation capacity in the US is expected to grow by 36 GW in 2024, Trend reports.

As the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) forecasts, the US electric power sector is anticipated to generate 43 percent more electricity from solar in 2024 compared to 2023, amounting to a remarkable increase of 70 billion kilowatt-hours (BkWh).

Additionally, the EIA forecast predicts a 6-percent growth (26 BkWh) in US wind generation for 2024, rebounding from a slight decline in 2023 attributed to lower average wind speeds, particularly in the Midwest.

Furthermore, US hydropower generation is expected to increase by 7 percent in 2024 (17 BkWh), as per the EIA projections. This growth is attributed to slightly higher water supply levels, especially in the Northwest, in comparison to the previous year.

At the same time, the agency has revised its forecast for electricity generation from renewables for 2025, which led to an increased projection for coal-generated electricity.
