ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 27. KazMunayGas Chairman Askhat Khassenov visited the Caspi Bitum plant to address underutilization issues despite its upgraded production capacity, emphasizing the need for increased demand from the road construction sector, Trend reports via KazMunayGas.
Askhat Khassenov toured the plant’s production facilities and held a meeting where the company's production indicators and potential solutions to market challenges - hindering full and stable capacity utilization - were discussed.
It was noted that following an early modernization completed in April 2025, the plant’s annual bitumen production capacity increased from 500,000 to 750,000 tons. This upgrade raised KMG’s total bitumen production capacity, including that of the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant, to 1.2 million tons per year - fully meeting domestic demand.
However, the daily bitumen output at the Aktau plant currently stands at 1,700–1,800 tons, below its maximum capacity of 2,250 tons per day, due to a lack of orders from road construction companies.
The Caspi Bitum plant, operated by JV LLP "Caspi Bitum," is a major producer of road bitumen in Kazakhstan. Located in the Mangystau region, it plays a key role in supplying high-quality bitumen for national infrastructure and road construction projects. The joint venture includes KazMunayGas and other partners, and it emphasizes modern technology and environmental standards in its operations
