Georgia's current account deficit ups twice in fourth quarter of 2009

The current account deficit of Georgian balance of payments amounted to $419.4 million in the fourth quarter of 2009.

During the reporting period, exports of goods increased by $10.1 million and import - $147.2 million.

Balance of services in the fourth quarter of 2009 was positive. It hit $85,2 million. The export of services amounted to $349.1 million, while import of services - $264 million.

The highest positive balance was characterized by travel service ($79.8 million), which reduced by 24.1 percent in the fourth quarter of 2009 and compared to the same period of 2008 increased by 58,6 percent. The second positive element is the transportation services ($37.7 million), export increased by 2,7 percent compared to the previous quarter of 2009. Import of transport services reduced by 2.8 percent compared to the previous quarter.
