Crop yield in Azerbaijan ups by nearly quarter

As of Aug.8, crop yield in Azerbaijan hit 24.7 quintals per hectare compared to 19.9 q /ha in 2010, which is 24.1 percent more, in the Agriculture Ministry said.

Wheat yield is 25.1 q / ha, or 26.1 percent higher than last year.

As of Aug.8, some 2.287 million tons of agricultural products (23.7-percent increase) were harvested from an area of 925,631 hectares (a 0.6-percent decrease for year).
In general, it is expected to harvest crop from an area of 933,606 hectares, or 0.5 percent less than last year's figure.

During the reporting period, 1.635 million tons of wheat was harvested (a 25.3-percent increase) from an area of 651,551 hectare (a 0.6-percent decrease). According to recent data, 99.6 percent of area sown with wheat was cultivated.

Spring field work ended in June in the country.

In the first half-year, the agricultural production in Azerbaijan increased by 6.2 percent compared to the same period of last year, including crop production - by 8.3 percent, livestock sector - 4.8 percent, the State Statistics Committee said.
