Eurozone finance ministers struck a deal on collateral for participants in the second bailout for Greece, officials announced early Tuesday, striking down the main hurdle that had been facing the rescue package, DPA reported.
All member states will be able to request the collateral, but will face a series of unattractive requirements in return - making it unlikely that any country will request it but Finland, which had insisted on the measure.
Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, who chairs the eurozone ministers' Eurogroup panel, said he received "a clear no" when he asked other countries if they would be interested.
"It is a balanced and fair solution," European Union economy commissioner Olli Rehn said. "I am satisfied that the issue is now out of the agenda."
