Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 30

During the first six months (March 21 – Sept. 22) of this Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), exports of goods to Turkmenistan and other Central Asian countries by rail in Sarakhs city of Iran’s Razavi Khorasan Province increased by 90 percent, said Director General of the Khorasan Railway Office Mostafa Naseri Varg, Trend reports via IRNA.
He said that 606,000 tons of cargo were loaded onto 10,000 railcars and exported during the reporting period.
He added that Razavi Khorasan Province is the leader in exporting goods by Iranian railways with 533,000 tons of exported products.
“Cement (77 percent) was mainly exported by rail,” he said. “This is while 80 percent of exports accounted for Uzbekistan, and the rest for Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.”
The expansion of the infrastructure and the increase in the number of freight railcars from 50 to 250 have led to an increase in exports by rail, he noted.
