Iran to increase copper production

Iran intends to increase copper production in next Iranian year (starts March 21, 2020) and make a new record, said Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade.

"Despite the sanctions, the copper production in current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019) has 13-percent growth," said Reza Rahmani, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"Total of €1 billion is to be invested in Sungun copper mine by the National Iranian Copper Industry Company," Rahmani said at the opening ceremony of third production phase in Sungun copper complex.

"The complex in Sungun will launch the cathode copper production in the next year," the minister added.

"The country had problems in major productions, but they have been solved by joint efforts of industrialists, miners and exporters. The Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has developed 34 projects to be implemented in mine and mineral industries, domestic production, technology, and financing. One of them envisages activating small mines," the official said.

Sungun copper mine is located in north-east of Tabriz. It has currently two concentration plants, with production of 300,000 tons of concentrate.

The minister also indicated that production of steel was 6.5 percent growth, ceramic production - 6.5 percent, cement - 5.5 percent, food industry - 15 percent, and medicine - 30 percent production growth in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019).
