A representative office of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) will be opened in Turkmenistan, Trend reports with reference to the State News Agency of Turkmenistan
The project to open a representative office of UNOPS in Turkmenistan was approved by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNOPS Grete Faremo addressed Turkmenistan with a proposal to open a representative office of UNOPS in the country, the report says.
The proposal was announced in order to implement the project on cooperation in the field of health, which Turkmenistan plans to implement jointly with UNOPS, as well as to expand the bilateral partnership.
According to the Framework Program for Cooperation in the Field of Sustainable Development between Turkmenistan and the UN for 2021-2025, in order to achieve the SDGs, relevant work is being carried out jointly with UN agencies, projects are being implemented in such priority areas as socio-economic sphere, transport and communications, medicine, and environmental protection.
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan confirmed the commitment of the state to participate in the UN activities.
Earlier, Turkmenistan expressed its desire to open a broad multilateral dialogue on transport issues within the UN with the participation of all member states of this organization, specialized international structures, global financial institutions and other interested parties.
