Turkmenistan prepares a project on the development of the Internet, which will provide subscribers with not only access to the network but also show of TV programs of high quality, the Ministry of Communications Turkmen state company centre of telematic services head Sapardurdy Taganov said in an interview with "Neutral Turkmenistan".
He said that at this stage proposals of the world-famous manufacturers Cisco, Alcatel, Juniper and others are being studied.
Moreover, this year it is planned to build a network between all automatic telephone exchanges of the capital via fiber-optic lines, install additional equipment on all automatic telephone exchanges for rendering Internet services on ADSL technology, increase the speed on the external channel by 620 Mb / sec.
Last year a new network of fiber-optic lines, which connected four major automatic telephone exchanges of Ashgabat with a central switch was built and launched.
This line will increase network capacity, providing access to Internet technology.
Taganov cites the fact that if the number of subscribers was 8,000 in early 2009, today that figure has increased significantly.
Eight urban Internet cafes operate for residents. Schedule of internet cafes increased up to 22 hours upon clients' request.
This year hotels in the country, primarily in the national tourist zone Avaza on the Caspian Sea, will render services in Turkmenistan Online network.
Moreover, the number of subscribers using broadband Internet access will significantly increase.
This line will increase network capacity, providing access to Internet technology.
Taganov cites the fact that if at the beginning of last year the number of subscribers was 8000, but today that figure has increased significantly.
