Iran to start oil production from joint field with Qatar

Iran will start early oil production from joint oil field with Qatar in next 30 months time and requires $150 million investment for early production plan, Mehr News Agency reported quoting Mussa Souri as saying.

"According to Oil Minister 's order early production from South Pars joint field will start in maximum of 30 months by contractors," he said.

He noted in next three months the National Iranian Oil Company will sign contract to develop offshore field with suitable contractors.

The cost of early production plan from South Pars joint oil layers apart from costs of purchasing ships is estimated to $150 million, he added.

The joint South Pars oil and gas field is shared by Iran and Qatar; it is among the world's largest. Iran is expected to produce up to $130 billion in revenues annually.

The Iranian share, which was divided into 28 phases, has about 14 trillion cubic meters of gas (about 8 percent of total world reserves) and more than 18 billion barrels of liquefied natural gas resources.
