Kazakhstan is developing a concept for a fuel and energy complex development as a long term prospect to be considered by the government of the Republic in summer, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and New Technologies Asset Isekeshev said in an exclusive interview with Trend on Tuesday.
"Kazakhstan is developing a concept for the fuel and energy complex development as a long term prospect to be considered by the government of the Republic this summer," he said. "This is a key moment to determine the strategy of developing domestic power engineering."
He added that at present calculations are being conducted by Kazakh and foreign specialists. They will determine the distribution of energy sources in the future, their location and the schemes of developing the energy infrastructure.
"We need to know the share of renewable energy sources such as coal or gas energy in the country's general energy basket in the short and long term prospects," he said.
He said that Russia had intensified its activity to work out its energy basket by attracting academic institutions for the past two years.
Earlier, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev instructed the government to pass to alternative energy sources by 2050. Their share by this time must reach at least 50 per cent.
According to the official data, at present 80 per cent of the country's electricity is generated by coal stations. Around 11 per cent fall to the share of gas, 10 per cent - hydro-power engineering, while the share of wind and solar units is 0.5 per cent.
"If one considers all three kinds of energy within renewable energy sources, it is possible to increase the proportion of renewable energy sources in a total volume of electricity generation to 13 per cent by 2015," Deputy Prime Minister said.
The government adopted a plan of action to implement the projects in the field of renewable energy sources. This will increase the share of renewable energy sources in the country's energy balance to 1 billion kw / h in 2014.
