BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 28. In August 2024, the STAR Refinery, owned by Azerbaijan's State Oil Company (SOCAR) in Türkiye, experienced a 24.35 percent drop in jet fuel production compared to the same period in 2023.

According to the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), the refinery produced 124,058 tons of jet fuel in August 2024, down from 163,991 tons in August 2023, Trend reports.

The STAR oil refinery received around 514,250 tons of crude oil in August 2024, a 44 percent decline compared to 918,225 tons supplied during the same period in 2023.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when demand for jet fuel plummeted due to travel restrictions, STAR quickly adapted its production facilities, originally designed to produce 1.6 million tons of jet fuel annually, to increase diesel output. Following the lifting of restrictions, the refinery resumed jet fuel production to meet growing demand.

The STAR Refinery, which started operations in October 2018, was built at a total cost of $6.3 billion, with around $3.3 billion financed through loans. The refinery has an annual refining capacity of 10 million tons and can process up to 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
