Kazakhstan, Astana, 27 September / Trend D.Mukhtarov /
In the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan, work is underway to eliminate the differential in wages of foreign and local workers, akim (governor) of the region Bakytkozha Izmuhambetov said in Astana on Friday.
"The question of the difference in wages has been raised since the first days of foreign investment. This year, an extraordinary test of 25 companies with foreign participation was held, and it was found that nine companies have such a problem," the governor said, speaking at a briefing on the Central Communications Service under the President of Kazakhstan.
"Measures have been taken, the errors have been corrected and the matter is now under strict control," Izmuhambetov said.
He added that such work is carried out in the framework of Kashagan field project and the issues of wages, environmental monitoring and other programmes are considered.
"In Kashagan the project has just started. We are preparing proposals by the executive bodies so that the work was carried out not only in terms of salaries of workers, but also on environmental issues and the allocation of funds for the development of social programs in the region," he said.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Kazakhstan recorded a 10-fold difference in the salary of foreign and domestic workers.
