ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 20. Kazakhstan and Romania have agreed to deepen cooperation in the transport sector, Trend reports.
An agreement on this was reached during a meeting between the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almassadam Satkaliyev and his Romanian counterpart Sebastian Burduja.
At the same time, the parties agreed to develop and use the potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor).
Thus, by the end of the first quarter of 2024, a working group on cooperation between the countries in the field of transport will be created.
In addition to this, the prospects for cooperation in the fields of agriculture, culture and tourism, labor and social protection of citizens were also discussed, and projects were outlined for the development of bilateral partnerships.
Meanwhile, the Middle Corridor is a transportation and trade route that connects Asia and Europe, passing through several countries in the region. It is an alternative route to the traditional Northern Corridor and Southern Corridor.
The route starts in China and crosses Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It then passes through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye before reaching Europe.
The Middle Corridor offers a land route that connects the eastern parts of Asia, including China, with Europe, bypassing the longer maritime routes.
To note, the volume of trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Romania in 2023 increased to $2.88 billion (in 2022 - $2.6 billion). Kazakh exports to Romania amounted to $2.76 billion, and imports of goods from Romania amounted to $112 million.
