ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 12. The volume of cargo transported by rail in Kazakhstan amounted to 197.6 million tons from January through June 2024, Trend reports.
The country's Bureau of National Statistics' data shows that this is 2.3 percent less than the level of the same period in 2023.
At the same time, cargo turnover by rail for the above period amounted to 153.7 billion ton-kilometers, which is 5.7 percent less than from January through June 2023.
Furthermore, from January through June 2024, a whopping 10.3 million passengers hopped on board the rail. This figure is head and shoulders above the same period in 2023, with a whopping increase of 6.6 percent.
In addition to this, passenger turnover for the above period amounted to 7.8 billion passenger-kilometers, which is 0.5 percent more than the first half of 2023.
Meanwhile, the volume of cargo transportation by rail in Kazakhstan amounted to 416.4 million tons from January through December 2023. This is 2.8 percent more than from January through December 2022.
