BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 23. Kyrgyzstan is exploring the possibility of launching electricity imports from Belarus, Kyrgyzstan's Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev said during a meeting of the Electric Power Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Trend reports.

The Minister noted that Belarus is soon launching the second block of its nuclear power plant and has an excess of electrical energy.

“We will discuss how Belarus can transport electricity to other countries, including us, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan,” Ibraev said.

Additionally, Russian Energy Minister Nikolay Shulginov noted that the energy systems of the CIS countries are interconnected. Some operate synchronously and provide mutual assistance during emergencies.

Currently, Kyrgyzstan imports electricity from Turkmenistan, Russia, and Kazakhstan.

According to the State Statistical Committee of the country, Kyrgyzstan imported 2.1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from January through June 2023, which is 32.3 percent more than in the first half of the previous year (1.5 billion kilowatt-hours).
