BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, April 17. The construction of the Kulanak Hydropower Plant (HPP) in Kyrgyzstan's Naryn is projected to cost approximately $135 million, Trend reports via the country's Ministry of Energy.
The 100 MW plant is being developed by Naryn Production Enterprise and will feature four hydro units of 25 MW each. Once operational, it is expected to generate up to 450 million kWh of electricity annually.
The $88 million for the project is provided by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund (RKDF).
Previously, the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan reported that the total cost of the HPP construction is estimated at $127.9 million.
Located 40 km west of Naryn city, the HPP is being built on a 485-hectare site along the Naryn river, near the village of Kulanak. The plant is scheduled for commissioning by the end of 2026.
Electricity from the HPP will be sold to local consumers in Naryn province via Electric Stations OJSC at a regulated tariff of 3.52 KGS per kWh, valid for 15 years from the start of operations, with annual adjustments for inflation.
The project aims to boost regional energy capacity and provide a sustainable power source for the region.
