DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, February 3. A total production value of enterprises and workshops put into operation in Tajikistan's Isfara city in the Sughd region in 2023 amounted to 1.7 million somoni ($156,542), Mayor of Isfara, Bahovaddin Bahodourzoda, said during a press conference, Trend reports.
He noted that 12 new small enterprises and workshops were established in Isfara last year, creating 56 new job opportunities. With these additions, the city's total number of enterprises and workshops reached 66, with 49 of them significantly improving their production metrics compared to 2022.
However, Bahodourzoda highlighted that 10 enterprises reduced industrial production, while 7 remained idle.
In 2023, the overall volume of industrial production in the city, including private sector output and services, reached 631 million somoni ($57 million), which is 48.3 million somoni ($4.4 million) more than in 2022.
According to the Deputy Chairman of the Sughd region Anvar Yakubi, the value of industrial production in Sughd region, reached 26.51 billion somoni ($2.423 billion) in 2023, which is an increase of 2.9 billion somoni ($265 million) or 10.7 percent compared to 2022
Tajikistan is now implementing a rapid industrialization strategy for 2022-2026. In January 2022, President Rahmon named this period the 'Years of Industrial Development,' with ambitious intentions to raise industrial output by 2.5 times in five years. The target for 2026 is 95 billion somoni ($9.3 billion), up from 38.8 billion somoni ($3.7 billion) in 2021.
