Tajikistan experiences surge in bank payment card transactions

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, April 15. Approximately 11.322 million transactions were conducted in Tajikistan via bank payment cards in February 2024, which is an increase of 56 percent compared to the 7.251 million transactions in the corresponding month of 2023, Trend reports.

According to the National Bank of Tajikistan, this figure saw a moderate rise of 2.65 percent compared to January 2024 (11.030 million transactions).

Out of the total transactions, 6.275 million were for cash withdrawals, with 6.25 million carried out by residents and around 26,000 by non-residents.

Additionally, there were 5.046 million transactions made for payments for goods and services using bank payment cards. Among these, 5.034 million transactions were accounted for by residents, while around 13,000 were made by non-residents.

Meanwhile, the number of bank payment cards in Tajikistan reached 6,991,672 by the end of February 2024, which is a 2 percent increase from the 6,852,927 cards in January of the current year. The figure grew by 29.7 percent compared to the 5,388,380 cards in February 2023.

As of the end of February 2024, Tajikistan had 63 credit financial organizations operating, including 14 traditional banks, 1 Islamic bank, 1 non-bank credit organization, 19 microcredit deposit organizations, 3 microcredit organizations, and 25 microcredit funds. Meanwhile, there were 24 banks issuing bank payment cards at the end of the reporting month.
