Azerbaijan, Baku, 8 May /corr. Trend D.Khatinoglu / Sharp reaction of the radical representatives of the ruling party in the Iranian Parliament with regards to the former President of the Country, Muhammad Khatami, is the illegal political pressure against opposition. "The pressure by the radical representatives of the ruling party with regards to the former President is illegal," the member of the Central Council of Etimad-Milli Party, Mehrangiz Muruvvati, reported to Trend .

Iranian ISNA agency reported on 6 May that Khatami said that spread of Islamic revolution in the foreign countries does not mean provocation, but still he indirectly criticized the Government. Some 77 MPs recommended to give serious warnings to Khatami. However, the recommendation was not adopted due to dissatisfaction of several MPs.

"The Parliament has no right to make warnings to the former President of the country and this issue contradicts the internal laws of the Parliament," Muruvvati reported to Trend by telephone from Tehran on 8 May.

According to her, attacks on Khatami are not new, several radical members of the ruling 'Usulgara' Party (fundamentalist) have repeatedly made illogical accusations against him and other activists of the reformists.

According to the Iranian MP, Azerbaijani by nationality, Khatami is known as a cultural President, and during his presidency term he pursued successful internal and foreign policy.

"Several radical forces which make up majority in the Parliament put pressure on Khatami, but they gain only failure. Despite that the representative of the ruling party Mehdi Juchekzade once again tried to make radical statements in this regard in the Parliament on 8 May, many MPs and even the representatives of the ruling party opposed it," Muruvvati said.

According to her, Khatami can freely express his opinion as a citizen and a political figure and it is his legal rights.

"Attempts of the radical forces against Khatami have been repeatedly recorded," the member of Mushariket Party, Elaheh Koolaee, reported to Trend .

According to her, radical forces exist amongst reformists and ruling party as well. However, there are many objective MPs in the Parliament. "The results of the new elections show that the next election will see more objective MPs and the Parliament - representatives of various parties," the Professor of Tehran University, Koolaee, reported to Trend by telephone from Iran on 8 May.

Khatami said during the meeting with students in Gilan city that currently the views and religious goals of the former religious leader of Iran and founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini are distorted. He indirectly accused the ruling party in misusing Islamic values. Describing the statements by Khatami as confirmation of the US accusations against Iran, 77 MPs demanded relevant governmental organizations to take measures in this regard. After intensive discussions in the Parliament, this suggestion was liquidated. The USA accuses Iran of provocations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and Palestine.
