Azerbaijan, Baku, 8 April /corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / Information sheets are being distributed in Azerbaijan's district of Lenkaran with regards to the information about Chairman of Umid Party, Igbal Agazade, a candidate for presidency, Trend Regional correspondent reports.
According to the article 75.2 of the Electoral Code of Azerbaijan, the agitation campaign of the candidate begins 60 days prior to the elections and completes 24 hour prior to the voting. The Presidential elections will take place in Azerbaijan on 15 October.
Agazade reported to Trend that distributing sheets containing information about the candidate does not break any the law. "They are not anti-agitation material. We do not call on the people to vote for the candidate of Umid Party. No law imposes ban on spreading any information about the candidate," Agazade said.
The Central Election Commission stated that law does not get violated if a citizen announces that he/she will be a candidate during the elections. But, if a citizen acts as a candidate and makes agitation challenges then it is illegal.
