Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 April / Trend corr K. Ramazanova/ The working group to determine the Caspian Sea's status will meet in Teheran on 15-16 April, the Spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Khazar Ibrahim said at a press conference on 14 April.
The Azerbaijani delegation will be headed by the Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov and all parties will exchange their views on non-coordinated points in the convention on the status of the Caspian Sea.
The issue to determine the juridical status of the Caspian Sea occurred after the split of the USSR. Before 1991 the status was based on the agreements between the littoral states - Iran and the Soviet Union. In July 1998, Kazakhstan and Russia signed an agreement on delimitation of the bed of the Caspian Sea's northern section for exercising the sovereign right to use interior resources, and in May 2002 they signed a protocol for that agreement. Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan signed the same documents in November 2001 and February 2003.
In November 2003 the Caspian States signed a Framework Convention on the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea.
In May 2003 Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia signed an agreement on the bordering delimitation lines of the Caspian Sea.
