Azerbaijan, Baku, 12 May / Trend corr R. Hafizoglu/ There were no Azerbaijanis amongst the victims of the clashes that took place between Hezbollah and other opposition organizations in Lebanon. "No Azerbaijani citizens suffered in the recent events in Lebanon," the Honorary Consul of Azerbaijan Republic to Lebanon Nazikh Gassub said to Trend .

Lebanese media reported that 11 people died as a result of the clashes between Hezbollah and Lebanese government on 10 May.

"Although a range of Azerbaijani families applied to the Consulate in order to leave the country, nobody has yet left Lebanon," Gassub said from Beirut in a telephone conversation on 12 May.

According to Gassub, only several families from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia have left Lebanon so far.

"The central streets of Beirut are still closed, but traffic has been restored in several streets. The situation in Lebanon is stabilizing, but there are still tensions in several places," he said.

According to the Lebanese media, Hezbollah took advantage of the riots in the country emerging from the rise in prices for foodstuffs, captured the airport and burnt the office of a pro-governmental TV. The Beirut airport is still under the control of Hezbollah.
