Azerbaijan, Baku, 13 June / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / Two documents are expected to be passed in the upcoming summit of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM). The heads of GUAM member-countries -Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, plan to accept the Batumi declaration and communique, GUAM organization from Kiev informed Trend . GUAM summit will be held in Batumi on 1 and 2 July. The text of documents will be agreed upon on the threshold of summit during the meeting of the Council of National Coordinatoirs (CNC) in Batumi on 25 June, as well as after the meeting of the Foreign Ministries of GUAM member-countries. |
In 1997, four post-Soviet republics; Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, established the GUAM format during a summit of presidents of European Union countries in Strasburg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organization but left four years later. In 2006, at the first summit of the organization in Kiev a decision was made to announce GUAM as an international organization with a new name; Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM.
Azerbaijan will pass chairmanship position to Georgia in the summit.
