Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr I. Alizadeh / There are no human rights problems in Azerbaijan, the Chairwoman of the Permanent Parliamentary Commission on Human Rights, MP Rabiyyat Aslanova, said in Baku on 18 September.

"You cannot come across the information on the state of Azerbaijan's numerous refugees and internally displaced persons in the Human Rights Watch reports. Azerbaijan is a rather powerful state and the Human Rights Watch Report cannot harm its image," the MP said.

The Human Rights Watch's recent report on Azerbaijan says that the human rights situation in the country is complicated. It indicates restriction of human rights and freedoms and mentions the arrests of journalists. The report was publicized several days ago.

"The success gained by Azerbaijan in the human rights field is on the level of developed countries. We have the necessary juridical and legislative basis for this. That means protection of human rights is the main direction of Azerbaijan's policy. Human rights protection is in the centre of all state programs," she said.

According to Aslanova, the data indicated in the report reflects that the report's authors are not familiar with the reality of Azerbaijan. The parliamentary commission plans to meet with the head of the Human Rights Watch representative office in Azerbaijan.
