Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 June / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / The preparatory hearing over Agil Khalil, the journalist of the Azadlig newspaper, who was stabbed, started in the Nasimi District of Baku on 5 June.
On 13 March, at about 8.00pm Agil Khalil, a journalist of the Azadlig newspaper, was stabbed in the chest by unknown assailants. He was immediately taken to the Clinical Medical Centre where he was operated upon. However, Khalil connected this case with the incident in the "Oil-garden".
The Prosecutor General's Office reported that the journalist was injured by nontraditional sexual orientation.
The investigation proved that Sergey Strekalin injured the journalist and Khalil had nontraditional sexual relations with Strekalin.
Strekalin was arrested on the Articles 127.1 and 234.1of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
The criminal investigation over the fact that the journalist was beaten in the territory of "Oil-garden" cancelled.
The Prosecutor General's Office reported that the information given by Khalil that he was attacked on 7 May, was not proved. The Office also denied the information that Khalil and members of his family underwent pressure during the investigation process.
Three policemen were commissioned to protect Khalil.
Khalil and his lawyer Elchin Sadigov, did not take part in the hearing. Journalist requested court to postpone the hearing as his lawyer is in the United State. The petition was not approved. But, another petition by Khalil to get familiar with the investigation materials was approved.
Strekalin and his lawyer requested to make a decision to pass the case for consideration. The next hearing is scheduled for 20 June.
