AGHDAM, Azerbaijan, July 10. A 30-member delegation of the world-renowned Most Traveled People (MTP) travel club arrived in Aghdam on July 10 as part of a trip to Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, Trend’s regional correspondent reports.
The delegation, which includes travelers from 15 countries, is headed by American Charles Veley, the founder of the MTP club.
The travelers, who visited the Alley of Martyrs in the city of Aghdam for the first time, were informed that heroic sons of the Motherland who died in the First Karabakh War are buried here, as well as some civilians who died during the Khojaly genocide.
Moreover, it was noted that Armenian vandals, who destroyed the city of Aghdam, also destroyed the graves in the Alley of Martyrs.
The foreign travelers viewed the ruins of Aghdam city and the newly built residential houses. An employee of the Special Representative of the President informed them about the acts of vandalism committed by Armenians during the occupation and the construction works carried out by the Azerbaijani state after the liberation of Aghdam from occupation.
Travelers reviewing the Juma Mosque of Aghdam city were informed
that the mosque, built in 1868-1870, like other historical and
religious monuments, was subjected to Armenian vandalism. The
minarets of the mosque were dismantled from inside, the ceiling was
torn off in several places, and drawings and inscriptions were
deliberately made useless and unrecognizable. Armenian vandals kept
cattle in the Juma Mosque of Aghdam. Following the Aghdam's
liberation from occupation, the mosque was restored by the
Azerbaijani state.
Over 3 days, the group plans to travel along the
Fuzuli-Khojavend-Shusha-Khankendi-Khojaly-Aghdam-Kalbajar-Lachin-Zangilan-Jabrayil
highway. This trip provides great opportunities for the promotion
of the territories liberated from occupation within the framework
of “dark tourism”, demonstration of large-scale construction and
restoration works.
Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur have been visited 13 times by international travelers in the last 4 years through the main international travel clubs.
