Payment card turnover in Azerbaijan significantly increases

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 27. Turnover of payment cards through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan increased by 3.1 billion manat ($1.8 billion) or 55.23 percent from 5.6 billion ($3.2 billion) to 8.7 billion manat ($5.1 billion) as of December 1, 2023, Trend reports.

The data of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) shows that the total number of payment card transactions amounted to 121.3 million (84.25 percent growth over the year), including 6 million transactions worth 325 million manat ($191.1 million) were carried out abroad.

The number of debit card transactions (both inside and outside Azerbaijan) amounted to 110.2 million worth 8.1 billion manat ($4.7 billion), of which 13.6 million transactions worth 3 billion manat ($1.7 billion) were made through ATMs inside Azerbaijan and 34.9 million transactions worth 698 million manat ($410.5 million) were made through POS terminals inside Azerbaijan.

Through credit cards (both inside and outside Azerbaijan) bank customers made 11.1 million transactions totaling 629 million manat ($369.9 million).

At the same time, 544,000 transactions worth 116 million manat ($68.2 million) were made through ATMs inside Azerbaijan, and 5.2 million transactions worth 185 million manat ($108.8 million) were made through POS-terminals.

The number of payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 3 million or 22.9 percent as of December 1, 2023 year-on-year and reached 16.5 million against 13.4 million a year earlier.
